TORONTO - BlackBerry Rumors that mention tablet Playbook will support Android applications at last confirmed by Research In Motion (RIM). Even so, RIM has asserted, for the moment only 2.3 alias Gingerbread Android applications that can run on Playbook.
Yes, despite supporting the application based on Android, Android Market service will not be operated on Playbook. Users can only access applications through the BlackBerry App Android World. Applications that can run on Playbook is still limited, that is for version 2.3.
"Developers live repacking, give code and submit applications with Java and Android their BlackBerry to BlackBerry App World. Once approved, the application will be distributed through the App World, providing new opportunities for developers to embrace the BlackBerry user's Playbook," the statement quoted RIM Yahoo News, Friday (25/03/2011).
Playbook itself is planned to begin to be released in North America on 19 April. RIM offers three versions Playbook, which is 16GB (USD499), 32GB (USD599) and 64GB (USD699).
Meanwhile, RIM reported decreased share value despite their last-quarter revenue increase. RIM's stock value fell $ 6, 59, or more than 10 percent, to USD57, 50.
